TIPS YOUR PET WILL LOVE YOU FOR !

The Well Groomed Pet....

Dry Shampoo... Give your pet an occasional dry shampoo. Rub in baking soda and brush his coat until the soda has been swept away along with the dirt. This is an especially safe way of keeping him clean during the cold winter months.

Animals dislike the smell of perfume odours on their coats. Use only odourless "animal" shampoos or soaps when bathing your pet. Employ the use of that old shower curtain or plastic tablecloth, to stay dry, when washing Fido. Simply cut slits for your head and arms and wash away!

FLEAS!!  To prevent these pests from pestering your pet, soak some cotton cording in oil of pennyroyal and tie loosely around your  pets' collar. Change every other week.  They do say that if you put garlic in your dogs' food, it will stop fleas bothering him. When giving your dog a flea bath, make sure you lather well around the neck area. Fleas tend to migrate towards the head.  There is always a danger, when flea combing, of a flea escaping! If you keep some cellotape handy you can stick the fleas to it and dispose of them later.   Try winding a few turns round an old bottle for example, sticky side out.

To keep your cat still while applying flea powder, try this. Take an old fishing net and gently place it over the cat. Put your foot on the handle and you'll now have both hands free... one to apply the powder and the other to cover his face and eyes.  PLEASE NOTE! I DO NOT PERSONALLY LIKE THE IDEA OF THIS!!! Would prefer to use a flea collar but please be extra careful if doing so as these can be dangerous for cats if not fitted properly.

A SHINY COAT...The next time you have any left-over egg yolks, give them to your dog. It's said to help make their coat nice and shiny.

THE WELL RAISED PET...

I Want My Mother... Little puppies and kittens need motherly love and warmth.. Place a warm hot water bottle securely under his blanket along with a ticking clock for those first few nights...

Indoor Kitty Lawn.....Place a layer of potting soil in a tray and plant some grass seeds. Your cat will love chewing on the grass.

Beware of Driver!.....Paint an inexpensive dog tag with iridescent paint and attach to your pets' collar. This will enable drivers to see him at night. Or, put a hole in a small plastic bicycle reflector and attach to his collar. You could alternatively, cut small pieces of reflector tape and apply to both sides of a dog tag.  Affix to collar with other tags.

The Irresistible Electrical Cord... Discourage your dog or cat from the dangerous habit of chewing on your electrical cords, by rubbing the cords with a bar of laundy soap. Pets dislike the taste!

The Irresistible Couch! ......Discourage your cat from sharpening his claws on your furniture by spraying a little perfume on the couches etc. They hate the smell!

Medicine.... If you have difficulty getting your cat to take its' medicine, try wiping the dose on the top of its' paw. The cat will be quick to lick it off. If the medicine is in pill form, just crush it, mix it with a little milk and smear the paste on the cats' paw. It is also very easy to encourage your dog to take a tablet... just hide it in a knob of butter!!!!!

CLEANING UP AFTER YOUR PET....

Oops, Another Accident! .... Soda water will remove the odour from accidents caused by untrained pups.   Gently rub the area with a cloth dampened with soda water.  This is especially good on fabrics.

Fur Balls... To cut down on your cat ejecting furballs onto your carpet, try feeding him sardines in oil once a month.   They say it helps smooth the passage-ways, allowing the hair a speedy transit, thus preventing the furballs from forming. You could also try wiping a little bit of petroleum jelly on the bridge of your cat's nose.  They'll simply lick it off.

Disposable Cat Litter Box... The next time you buy a case of 24 canned drinks etc. remove the cans carefully without damaging the plastic wrap and cardboard tray.  They make great disposable kitty bathrooms!

Dog Dish Mess... Stick a thin piece of rubber carpet underlay undre your dogs' dish.  This will help keep it in its' place while your dog devours his food and will prevent messy spills.
